Watercolor, Pastel, and Acrylic I was born in Michigan and spent my early years on my grandparents farm. Happy memories of that time tend to show up in my paintings of children and farm animals. We moved to California when I was nine. My mother was an artist and I learned an appreciation of art from an early age. I taught elementary school in California for thirty-five years, and incorporated art activities for children within that framework. I explored my own art sporadically during that time. When I retired and moved to Oakhurst from the East Bay area in 2000 I began to paint in earnest, taking classes from several talented local artists. My favorite subjects are birds, animals, and flowers. I like to add a bit of whimsy now and then, and enjoy the use of strong color. I am especially pleased when the unexpected happens and leads to new discoveries. As Henry Miller said: “To paint is to love again, and to love is to live life to the fullest.” |
